A Week At Grandma's--by Patch (aka "Spot")

On Thanksgiving Day Rameses and I were abandoned and left to be tormented by Grandma and Grandpa while our Mom and Dad went off to Alaska. Happy Thanksgiving to us---thanks a lot Mom!!

Grandma made me eat out of this stupid green ball.

You can't really tell by the picture, but Rameses got back at Grandma by whopping her in the eye with his thick skull. She has a nice, swollen black eye. When anyone asks what happened to her, she just tells them she was hit by a Greyhound. You see that picture above? Ha ha--she thinks she is making friends with me!

"I pee on Grandmas bedspread all the day." Oops, she found out and boy am I in trouble now. There went THAT short lived freedom.

Grandma passes out bananas for breakfast. I really like those, but there sure was a lot of competition and I had to wait my turn.

After a couple of days, I decided Mom and Dad weren't ever coming back to rescue us, so I thought maybe it was time to start liking the hands that feed us.

By day 4, I really needed some cuddling and I was willing to take what I could get. I even jumped in the middle of their bed in the morning and gave them a big kiss!

I can't figure out why Rusty and Radar don't like me. They don't seem to mind Rameses, and all he does is sleep--BOOOOOORING! Here I am all full of energy and playfulness. Rusty growls if I get near him, then he sticks his nose in the air and walks away rolling his eyes at me (my Mom is good at rolling her eyes--maybe he learned it from her).

Radar won't get off this dumb chair and play with me. He seems terrified of me and runs and hides when I get near him. I try so hard to play--I fly through the air and pounce on him, and I nip at his legs, and I've run over him a few times when I was running so fast--accidently, of course.
Grandma and Grandpa needed to get some work done in the basement and they were tired of holding Radar to keep him away from me, so they found a place where I couldn't play with him. Grandma thought he would complain.
He didn't complain.

Did you know that I can run down the hall and leap all the way from the doorway of Grandma's bedroom and land in the middle of her bed? I guess my time here wasn't all that bad, and I got lots and lots of treats, and even lots more lovin' when I allowed it. I sure do miss my Mom and Dad, though. I think Grandma misses them, too. She spends an awful lot of time outside with a shovel. I wonder why.

I Can Identify!!

The Real Alaska

On 10/29/2008 I had the priviledge of being welcomed into Erin's home for an Alaskan adventure of my very own. They have a beautiful home that they are working hard to make even more beautiful. Our first order of business was to prepare for Halloween, something Brenden thoroughly enjoyed. He planned, drew out, and carved this pumpkin completely by himself.
Brenden called me before I departed from home and specifically requested I bring the "muscle man" costume (we knew it as He-Man) I had made many years ago. I guess it's a keeper because he won first place at the ward Halloween party with it. Nolan and Ethan were cute and warm (is that really possible there?) in their lion and dinosaur costumes.

Brenden continued in dress-up mode, and I got a free checkup. FYI--except for the broken leg he bandaged for me, I think I'm healthy.

The Wonder Woman (aka "Wonder Boy") and Superman capes that I took were also a big hit, especially for Nolan. His cape was the first thing he asked for in the morning and the last thing he took off at night.

Ethan's walking skills showed noticable improvement while I was there. He was so proud of himself!!Brenden did his homework diligently every evening after school.

For some reason he was enamoured by my coat.Time for church and this is how Brenden appeared. No one tells him how to dress!!

Nolan was anxious to demonstrate his snowmobiling skills. Now I know why all the trees have big dents in their trunks.

This was our little trek to the Boehme boat dock. It's just across and down the street a bit.

Erin thought it would be fun to take me out on the lake. What she was thinking was we would go out in a boat, however what you see there that looks like water is actually solid ice. The salmon can be seen quick frozen under the surface still in mid-swish. It appears they never knew what hit them. We didn't get brave enough to "walk on water", however when we threw rocks and logs out there they simply bounced with a thud. We held our breath when we saw Newman trotting across the ice and now I wonder how he will know better when Spring comes.

It only took a few minutes before our outing was over. My feet were frozen as solid as the lake.

The upstairs of their home was pretty torn up while I was there, but I could certainly see the potential with much hard work and a great deal of patience.Erin was glad to have a helping hand to finally get the trash to the dump. I have to admit that while they have a home in a setting that, in summer months most people would kill for, I don't envy their lack of garbage pickup service, mail delivery, and TV. With no regular dining table available, we had a chance to be 'at one' with the children during meals.Little Ethan became my new best friend. Too bad he won't remember.

Cosmo and Newman have formed the "cool dogs" club and poor Fudge isn't allowed in. She is very sweet and friendly.I had a wonderful time and I thank the Boehme's for their hospitality. The salmon and halibut were a big hit too! Now I look forward to seeing it all over again--without thermals and earmuffs!!
